Colourwork is incredibly fun – until the floats on the back get longer and longer and your fingers or toes start getting caught in them.
 

Maybe you know the problem:

The front looks beautiful, but on the back things start to get a little messy – and sometimes those long floats even affect the way the front looks.
 

That’s exactly where Ladderback Jacquard comes in.
 

This technique allows you to manage long floats without them showing on the front of your work. Your knitting stays stretchy, tidy and comfortable to wear.

In this workshop, you’ll learn step by step how Ladderback Jacquard works, when it makes sense to use it – and, just as importantly, when you don’t need it at all.

Because not every long float automatically needs a ladderback.

What we’ll explore

 

Together, we’ll look at:

• when ladderbacks are useful

• how to set them up neatly

• how to work them as you knit

• how to make them disappear again

• what to consider with different colourwork motifs

 

Practice Project

Together, we’ll knit a small colourwork motif in the round and deliberately use ladderbacks in different places.

This lets you see and try for yourself where they’re useful – and where you can happily do without them.
 

After this workshop, you’ll be able to...

• manage long floats with confidence

• use ladderbacks exactly where you need them

• decide when they’re actually necessary

• incorporate the technique into your own Fair Isle or stranded colourwork projects

 

Who is this workshop for?

For knitters who are already comfortable working two-colour knitting in the round and want to make their colourwork projects neater and more comfortable to wear.

Please bring: 2 balls or leftovers of yarn in strongly contrasting colours and needles suitable for your yarn (circular needles or DPNs)
