Masterin Shawl Shapes
From Chart to Dream Shawl
Understand how shawl shapes are created
You’ve found a beautiful lace or stitch pattern – but how do you turn it into a shawl?
In this workshop, we’ll explore how different shawl shapes are constructed and how increases and decreases influence their shape.
Once you understand why a shawl takes on a particular shape, it becomes much easier to use stitch patterns intentionally and develop ideas of your own.
🧶 What you'll learn

We'll explore several classic shawl shapes:
-
Triangle
-
Crescent
-
Boomerang
-
Heart shape
You'll learn how these shapes are created using different increases and decreases and how the construction affects the finished piece.
From stitch pattern to your own idea
We’ll look at how you can incorporate lace and textured stitch patterns into different shawl shapes.
The aim isn’t to knit an entire shawl during the workshop. Instead, you’ll learn how the construction works and how an existing stitch pattern can be incorporated into a particular shape
By the end of the workshop
You’ll be able to recognise different shawl shapes and understand the basic principles behind their construction.
You’ll understand how increases and decreases affect the shape and be better able to judge how a lace or textured stitch pattern can be incorporated into a particular shawl construction.
This gives you the tools to better understand existing patterns – or start developing shawl ideas of your own.
Who is this workshop for?
For knitters who are comfortable working knit and purl stitches and would like to understand what's behind the construction of different shawl shapes.
You don't need any previous experience designing your own knitwear.
What to bring
